Xperia Go ST27i Battery Removal

How to Change Your Xperia Go ST27i Battery

Hi,

I recently changed my Xperia Go (ST27i) battery after it started to act weird. The battery may jump to 100% from, say, 25% while charging and vice-versa. So I figured out it’s the battery that has gone bad and decided to give it a go myself. Unfortunately, it is an embedded battery and even Google was of minimum help as there are no specific battery changing videos available for this phone model. So I did some general searches on replacing the so called "non-removable" batteries (I would say "not-so-easily-removable") and some YouTube videos on the Xperia Go digitizer replacement. This is what I did.

Requirements:

  1. Star & Hex Screwdrivers - I used my Jackly 32 pc multipurpose screw set (Available in eBay). You may use any mobile phone screw drivers if you have the right size. If it's the right size the screws will unscrew effortlessly. DO NOT damage the grooves by using wrong sized screw drivers.
  2. Xperia Go ST27i Battery - (Model 1255-9147.1). I bought it from eBay at INR 1200/- .
    Xperia Go ST27i Battery - Model 1255-9147

Steps:

  • Power off - Obviously. :P
  • Remove the back cover Insert your nail into the gap and sliding around the bottom and side of the phone. Then pop it out.
  • Remove the cards - Remove the SIM card, its holder and memory card.
Don't Screw It

  • Unscrew - You will notice 8 screws, 7 stars(3 blackish + 4 silvery) & 1 hex. See the picture for the arrangement. Notice that the silvery star screws have little rubber washers. Be careful not to damage them or lose them. Unscrew and remove all the screws. You may use YouTube videos on digitizer replacement of Go for help.

    The Pencil Box Way
  • Open the Phone - Hold the phone screen facing the ceiling, and slowly lift the screen side up from the Volume button side. More like opening a pencil box. The phone may not open at once. Be careful and gently remove if the edge of the chip set is clinging to the screen compartment. Do not remove any connectors to the digitizer / screen. You will now see the battery.

  • Remove the battery connection - On the top side of the battery you will see a black arm connecting to the main board of the phone (Yellow circled in pic above). This serves as the battery poles. Remove this by gently popping it out from the phone.
  • Remove the translucent film -  Remove the translucent strip below the arm attached to the top of the battery (The orange one in the pic).
  • Remove the Battery - Insert a pair tweezers or something similar below the bottom end of the battery and slowly remove it out of the phone. The battery is attached to the base of the phone via 2-way tape. So you may need to apply a little force in this step. It is OK if you are careful enough to apply the pressure just on the battery and not in any part of the phone. Take the battery out.
  • Insert the New Battery - Put the new battery in. Now reverse the steps. (Press it a little to the 2-way tape. Attach the translucent film back (below the black arm). Connect the black arm to the main board). And finally, put the screen back in position and screw it.
  • Juice up & Voila! - Plug the phone to charger. If everything is right you will see the battery charging icon. Charge your new battery 4-6 hours before turning the phone on.

Hope this blog helps! Do leave your feedback.

  2. Seems like a defective battery. You will have to open the phone and see if there is a bulging/puffing on the battery.
PS: I bought my battery from eBay. Still working.
